OUR DAVIS CLUB
Soroptimist International of Greater Davis was chartered on September 8, 1985 by a group of 30 members. Sierra Nevada Region Governor, Phyllis Hunewill performed the chartering ceremony which took place at the El Macero Country Club.

SOROPTIMIST OF THE AMERICAS
The first Soroptimist club was formed in 1921 by a group of 80 women in Oakland, Alameda County, California. Nowimage of female speaker known as Soroptimist of the Americas, the organization is part of Soroptimist International –with over 100,000 members in 119 countries. They chose their name from two Latin words meaning "best for women"-which not only describes our organization's qualities, but also our members' missions to:

  • Maintain high ethical standards in business and professional life,
  • Strive for human rights for all people and, in particular, to advance the status of women,
  • Develop a spirit of friendship and unity among Soroptimists of all countries,
  • Develop interest in community, national international affairs, and
  • Contribute to international understanding and universal friendship.
